Blog Design Tips

A blog, whether for school or for personal use, should house information that you can later refer to or reflect on the work you did. A blog has many uses and many purposes. Blogs also have different design styles. Here are a few simple design tips to help with designing a blog.

Clean and Simple Design

Using a template that looks professional, that does not have distracting images and graphics is a good way to start. If you are not familiar with designing websites and blogs, selecting a clean and simple template design is always a safe way to go. It also gives you the room to add design elements as you experiment with the look of your blog.

Organization

For a blog, the template may include the font style, and font size for headings and paragraphs, however, you can make changes to those preselected elements. You can also organize your blog in a way that you like. Making sure that there is a difference in font size and style between headings and paragraphs is a great start. Titles should reflect what the blog post is about therefore, choosing short titles that attract the attention of the audience is always good practice.

Writing

The writing style that you choose to use on your blog depends on your audience. For blogs that are for school or professional use, ensure that your blog is free from spelling and grammatical errors. Your writing is always a reflection of you, therefore you want to ensure that you articulate yourself the best way and that your writing is intelligible.

Images and Graphics

It is good practice to have an image accompany a blog post. The saying that a picture is worth a thousand words is true for images. Images help to further convey what is written and it also gives a visual to accompany your words. You can never go wrong with including a relevant image or two in your blog post.

Housekeeping

It is good practice to do some housekeeping on your blog once in a while. Checking for broken links and making sure that all links that take readers away from your blog are still accessible is good housekeeping.
