6 Tips for Creating a Good Study Environment

Having a place to study is essential to your success as a student, regardless of your level in academia. It is crucial to have a place, free from distractions for you to focus on your assignments or any other school work. Therefore, having a good study environment is important. Here are some times for choosing or creating a good study environment.

1. Quiet Study Area

Find a location where you can get some peace and quiet. You will need a quiet place to work without distractions from things like television, family, or roommates.

2. Avoid Distractions

Some of these distractions can include video games, your cellphone, and surfing the internet.

Games - Consider uninstalling any video games to avoid temptation or keep the games on a different computer in the house.
Cellphone - Turn off your cell phone. Let friends and family members know the hours that you will be "at" school.
Surfing the Web - Beware of surfing the black hole of the Internet. It is easy to lose track of the time as you wander from site to site.

3. Consider ergonomics

Adjust the height of your chair, keyboard, and screen so that you are comfortable. Forearms and thighs should be level and parallel to the floor. Wrists should not be bent while typing.

4. Good lighting and comfortable seating

Lighting in the room should be at least as bright as the computer screen to avoid eye strain.

5. A Clutter-Free Space

A study area free of clutter, helps you to focus more on your work. There are people who have to clean their study area before they begin studying. Seeing less clutter on your desk or in your study area, can help you be more efficient in completing your work.

6. Organize your work

This is linked to the previous point about creating a clutter-free environment. Organize any papers or books you may have lying around. Throw away what you do not need. The same is true for your computer files, create folders and file away your documents. This will make it easier to locate your work in the future.

These are just a few tips that can help you create a good study environment that helps you to be more productive.
